Dr Shahram Ahmad Vazir has been an Interventional Consultant Cardiologist since 2018, performing complex coronary interventional procedures, including coronary angioplasty (PCI) (with insertion of a coronary balloon or stent), often utilising adjunctive techniques from IVUS to Pressure Wire Study (FFR/iFR) and more advanced techniques such as Shockwave Intra-vascular Lithotripsy. He has been looking after patients with angina (chest pain), heart attack patients, and also participates in the East Sussex Acute Heart Attack service for rapid diagnosis and treatment.

He has been privileged to train in busy general hospitals, as well as five cardiothoracic centres (St George’s, Essex Cardiothoracic Centre, Bart’s, Royal Brompton, and Papworth, at different levels). As a result, he has gained widespread experience in all aspects of cardiology. He completed training in intervention at prestigious hospitals such as Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, with further post-CCT training at Essex Cardiothoracic Centre and a structural intervention fellowship at St Bart’s Hospital. He therefore treats patients with coronary artery disease (often causing chest pain and breathlessness) as well as patients with arrhythmia/palpitations (such as atrial fibrillation (AF)), syncope/collapse, hypertension, valvular heart disease, and heart failure.

Dr Ahmad Vazir’s field of research was the investigation of new onset chest pain with stress echocardiography and the added value of carotid imaging in such patients, resulting in extensive practical knowledge of echocardiography and stress echocardiography, both in the field of ischaemia/viability assessment and valvular heart disease, as well as achieving a PhD from Imperial College. His experience of cardiac imaging, in particular advanced stress echocardiography, greatly complements his decision-making process in the field of coronary and valvular artery disease, enabling him to offer patients the best advice and treatment.

To date, he has performed in excess of 1,000 coronary angiography and angioplasty procedures, with high success rates and very low complications, receiving very positive feedback from patients, their relatives and colleagues alike. He has extensive experience in treating coronary artery disease, performing complex coronary interventional procedures, from primary percutaneous coronary angioplasty (PPCI) in acute heart attacks to complex LMS (left main stem), graft, and bifurcation cases.
