Yes, please feel free to use your mobile phone in your room, however, we do ask that mobile phones are not used in the corridors to ensure peace and privacy for our other patients.

We admit all patients at the same time, this allows your consultant and anaesthetist to visit all of their patients before surgery begins. Your nurse will get you ready for surgery in accordance to the surgical list order.

It will depend on the type of surgery you have had, however, once you are back in your room and awake, the nursing team will assess you and let you know when you can eat and drink.

Yes of course, your consultant and, if it applies, your anaesthetist, will visit you before your procedure, you will have an opportunity to ask them any questions.

We do ask you to carefully think about bringing valuables into hospital with you. If you do need to bring any valuables with you, there is a small box in your room where you can place them in, which you can lock.

We cannot be held responsible for the loss or damage of your personal belongings.

If you are booked as a day case (general anaesthetic) you will need to stay at the hospital for at least 2 hours after. You will normally be able to go home after you have had a drink and eaten, passed urine and feel that you have recovered enough to make the journey.

You will need to check with your insurance provider to confirm what they will cover in relation to your procedure. Equipment such as braces or crutches and medicines we give you to take home may not be covered by your policy and you may need to pay for these yourself.

Most insurance policies do not cover personal expenses such as phone calls, visitors’ meals and newspapers.

If your policy has an excess (a set amount you have to pay towards any claim you make) or the cost of your treatment is more than your policy will cover, you will need to pay the difference.

If you have health insurance, call the team at Sussex Premier Health to find out about consultant appointment availability. If so, visit your GP and ask to be referred to a specialist at Sussex Premier Health.

If you don’t have insurance, call a member of our self-pay team to obtain a price and to book an appointment with your chosen specialist. We also let you know if you’ll need to get a GP referral.
