Mr Edward Calleja

I graduated in 2004 at the University of Malta where I completed my specialisation in Urology.

In 2014 I came to the UK and worked in various hospitals to sub-specialise in pelvic uro-oncology (prostate and bladder cancer). During this period I developed a keen interest in addressing urinary tract infections and urinary voiding issues.

I have been working as a consultant in General Urology and pelvic robotic surgery since 2019 in Eastbourne Hospital which is a referral centre for Sussex major robotic urological interventions. I am a senior member of the Multi-Disciplinary Meeting.

I have developed numerous services for our urological cancer patients like preoperative optimisation, active surveillance, survivorship, and more.

Currently I form part of Prostate Cancer UK Prostate Cancer Clinical Champion, a position that helps me to address the unmet needs for our prostate cancer patients.

I am one of the few robotic surgeons in UK that operate at ultra low intra-peritoneal pressure that ensures faster recovery, and lesser complications. In my robotic prostates the rate of continence on removing the catheter is nearly 70%, with 99% of the patients being dry by 3 months of the surgery.

Mr Calleja is recognised by Aquablation® Therapy as a qualified and approved surgeon for the Aquablation procedure.
