Mr Manuel Saldana

Consultant Ophthalmologist and Oculoplastic Surgeon

FRCophth (London) FRCS (Edinburgh) FRCS (Glasgow)

General Medical Council Number: 4555157

I have been a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Oculoplastic Surgeon for the past 12 years and am an expert in orbit and eyelid plastic surgery procedures. I have performed a vast amount of cataract operations and am able to offer cataract surgery under topical (eye drops) anesthesia as well as injections.

I specialise in Oculoplastic surgery and perform around 600 eyelid procedures per year in both my NHS and private practice. These include excisional biopsies, blepharoplasty, brow lift, Ptosis, cyst removal, reconstructive surgery and trauma reconstruction.

I am internationally renowned for my surgical training, online book and publications. I researched the management of different Oculoplastic conditions for 4 years and was awarded Oculoplastic fellowships at Leeds Teaching Hospitals and Norfolk and Norwich University where I was an honorary lecturer. I continue to research and present at national and international conferences.

When choosing a surgeon for eyelid surgery, it is important to consider the physician’s training. Oculoplastic Surgery (also known as Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Oculofacial Plastic Surgery) is a subspecialty that focuses on cosmetic and reconstructive aspects of the eyelids, lacrimal (tear) system, the orbit (the bone cavity surrounding the eye), and the adjacent face.

An Oucloplastic surgeon spends the first four years after medical school mastering care of the delicate eye and surrounding tissues, gaining certification as an ophthalmologist. After this already specialised training, an Oculoplastic surgeon completes an additional two years of specialized plastic surgery training. This is more specialized eyelid and upper face surgical training than any other type of cosmetic surgeon.

Combining knowledge of how to manage the delicate eye with detailed plastic surgery knowledge for the eyelids, an Oculoplastic surgeon offers the very best experience to ensure the safest and most cosmetically appealing results after surgery. When you consult with an Oculoplastic surgeon, you are consulting with a true surgical eyelid specialist.
