“Friendly staff and fantastic facilities. I felt very welcomed by all those involved in the process of obtaining my practicing privileges.” I have been a consultant ophthalmologist at East Sussex NHS trust since 2011.
My training in ophthalmology was at various well established units in London including Kings College Hospital, Western Eye Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster hospital and several years at the world famous Moorfields Eye Hospital.
I have two advanced fellowships in medical retina and uveitis and perform high volume cataract surgery with interest in complex cases and premium lens implants.
I specialise in cataract surgery with focus on achieving spectacle independence, retinal disorders such as diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration and vein occlusions, floaters, inflammatory eye disease including red eye and vision loss.
I have performed over 5000 cataract procedures since becoming an ophthalmologist. I currently have two high volume cataract lists a week and perform most of my cataract procedures under topical aneasthesia.
I also perform toric and multifocal lens implant to reduce spectacle dependence which is only available privately. I have performed numerous intravitreal injections for management of wet macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease and retinal vein occlusion.
I have had an injection list weekly for the last nine years with an average of 10-15 injections per list. I am also proficient in anterior segment (Nd: YAG) and posterior retinal laser procedures.
I am currently the clinical lead for ophthalmology at East Sussex NHS Trust. I am also the registered manager and lead for South East Eye Surgeons (SEES). I am the regional advisor for ophthalmology to South East UK.
I am a referral outcome grader for diabetic retinopathy screening and retina service lead.
My role was instrumental in developing six non medical injectors at the trust. I have been awarded two CEA points back to back last year and this year which is a remarkable achievement.
