Consultant General Surgeon
MS, FRCS (Gen Surg)
General Medical Council Number: 4212621
I am a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at the East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust and Spire Sussex Hospital.
My clinical practice includes all aspects of general and colorectal surgery including advanced laparoscopic techniques for hernia, gallbladder and colorectal cancer surgery. I have developed a sub-specialty interest in disorders of the pelvic floor including rectal prolapse and difficulties with evacuation of stool and faecal incontinence.
I graduated from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, University of London. I completed basic surgical training in the South West Thames region prior to embarking on a period of research at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, Imperial College London. My research focused on novel laboratory techniques to improve the early detection of bowel cancer. I presented my findings to many learned societies, both nationally and internationally. I was awarded a Master of Surgery degree from the University of London for my research work.
I completed six years of higher surgical training on the North West Thames rotation, one of the the most competitive and highly-regarded training programmes in the UK. I was trained in laparoscopic general and colorectal surgical techniques from the outset of my higher training. My final years of the programme were undertaken in colorectal units in London teaching hospitals. The culmination of my training was six months spent as a Resident Surgical Officer at St Marks Hospital, an internationally renowned centre for bowel disorders, generally considered to be a ‘finishing school’ for colorectal surgeons.
