How physiotherapy can help

Physiotherapy can help people regain movement, increase mobility and reduce pain using a variety of techniques.

Conditions treated include back and neck pain, sports injuries, joint, ligament, muscle and tendon problems, posture issues, whiplash, upper and lower limb conditions as well as post-surgery rehabilitation.

At Sussex Premier Health, we place a high priority on the accurate assessment and diagnosis of your condition and we also take the time to understand your situation at home and at work.

We aim to ensure that you receive the best treatment and advice in order to help you return to your normal activities as soon as possible.

What to expect

At your first appointment a detailed history will be taken, followed by a thorough assessment of your condition by one of our Chartered Physiotherapists. Please allow up to one hour for your first appointment.

It may be useful to bring a pair of shorts or vest top as the physiotherapist will need to see the areas that relate to your condition.

You will receive expert advice and treatment and we will provide you with a personal recovery programme tailored to your needs.

During your physiotherapy sessions you might find some exercises painful. This shouldn’t last and you shouldn’t need to take any pain medication.

Physiotherapy is a highly personalised form of treatment which varies depending on the condition you’re suffering from. Your physiotherapist will give you a series of specific exercises which you’ll need to do regularly over a set time frame to see improvement.

Your recovery time will be determined by the extent of your injury or condition. To help achieve the best possible results you should follow any exercise regime for the time period prescribed by your physiotherapist.

Follow up appointments last up to 30 minutes which includes note writing time for the physiotherapist. With your permission our physiotherapists will liaise with your GP and provide a detailed discharge summary at the end of your treatment.

Our physiotherapists may recommend diagnostic tests if necessary, including X-ray, CT and MRI scanning.
