Before your treatment

You will have a formal consultation with a healthcare professional. During this time, you will be able to explain your medical history, symptoms and raise any concerns that you might have. We will also discuss with you whether any further diagnostic tests, such as scans or blood tests, are needed.

Any additional costs will be discussed before further tests are carried out. Blood testing will also be used to monitor the effectiveness of treatment with drugs or insulin. Common tests include blood glucose and the HbA1C test. A small sample of blood may be taken and tested in our laboratories.

The procedure

Following a full consultation, we will be able to advise you on the best course of treatment. Treatment varies widely between individuals, and we will develop a management plan suited to your individual needs and lifestyle.

Aftercare

Even after you’ve left hospital, we’re still looking after you every step of the way. After diabetes tests will be available for follow up appointments to monitor your condition. Your results will also be referred back to your GP who can manage your ongoing treatment plan if requested.

Diabetes is an increasingly common disorder which results in the level of sugar in the blood being too high. This usually occurs when the body does not produce enough insulin. Diabetes can be easily diagnosed through a blood test to measure the level of sugar in the blood.

There are two main types of diabetes – type I and type II – type II is the most common and is usually treated through diet, exercise and drug treatment. Type I diabetes more commonly occurs in young people and always requires treatment of insulin injections.
