Sussex Premier Health, Hastings: Important update for patients with upcoming appointments
The Memory Clinic at Sussex Premier Health involves a comprehensive assessment and personalised care for individuals facing memory concerns and depression.
As a part of this assessment you will also receive a full physical examination, review of your other health concerns as well as a medication review.
Our clinic uses a variety of neuropsychological tests to aid in the diagnosis process, helping to differentiate between memory issues associated with dementia, normal aging memory decline, and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) – which is a pre-dementia state. Additional assessments, including brain scans and blood tests, may be recommended based on individual needs.
Depression is a common occurrence among older adults, particularly those with dementia. It is crucial to address underlying depression as it can impact mental function and be mistakenly identified as dementia. Effective treatment not only improves mood but can also lead to significant enhancements in memory.
While Alzheimer’s dementia is the most prevalent type, it’s essential to recognise that there are various other forms of dementia. Our Memory Clinic provides personalised treatment options, tailored to each patient’s unique situation.

Many older patients who need to see a specialist are unable to do so because they cannot leave their homes. For housebound older adults, or those living in Residential or Nursing Homes, Consultant Geriatrician can bring the care they require right into their home.
A home-based assessment also allows an evaluation of the physical environment to identify risk factors (falls) and equipment needs, review of medicines and observe contact with family members.
A GP referral letter, with summary of all medical problems and latest investigations is necessary prior to the visit. The service includes a comprehensive geriatric assessment and subsequent follow-up visits by Dr Mucci if required.
If admission to hospital is necessary for investigations, treatments or procedures, this can be organised on the same or next day through Sussex Premier Health, St Leonards-on-Sea. The same Consultant will continue the care in the hospital to ensure continuity of care.
